Cardinator update V0.0.2

I’ve updated my simple GUI to send commands to smart cards via PC/SC compliant readers, so that in theory it should now run on all Intel Macs with Snow Leopard (10.6). Tested with 2009 MacBook Pro and 2006 (single core) Mac Mini and JCOP Java Card. If you want to give it a try on your machine and tell me if it works, would be greatly appreciated. Download here.

Milestone – on to App #3

Yay, TwicPit 2.1 is now in review (if you can trust the status in iTunes Connect… ), I’m not totally happy with it yet (who can… ;o) but at least – it’s a milestone, and it’ll now give me some more air to breath to take energy to not only my new job, which I’m very happy about, but also to App #3.

Proof of concept for App #3 worked out extremely well, so I’ll press to get this out into the store by September! No details given, except it’ll be a free, iAd supported and iPhone/iPad hybrid app, with an in-App purchase option to switch off iAd. Its not something totally new, but I’m sure you’ll like it Stay tuned!

End of silence

It’s been silent on my websites for quite a while. I’m pleased to say, that this will change soon, as I had switched to another job which will (at least for some time) allow me to take more care about my “other projects”.

So these other projects will be:

- a bugfix update to TwicPit 2
- a new (free, iAd enabled) media-app
- a simple iPad game
- new version for Cardinator
- working more on my other blogs as well.

Quite a lot on the agenda, but I’m looking forward to diving into it. First will be the TwicPit update, which I’m hoping to release to Apple still this week. Timeline for the rest – I can’t tell yet, as there’s a lot of clean up work in my “private life” to be done, too. But keep stopping by, I’ll keep you updated here.

TwicPit 2 in the store, but iOS 4 to go

A week ago, Apple released TwicPit 2 for sale into the app store, and I was really relieved, because I’m using a “Springboard”-like home screen for my app, and they had recently rejected quite many apps, because they were using “desktop like” screens.

Well… I’m happy now, but still not happy with the features implemented (man, my list is still THAT long…), so now I’m tackling the most important one: iOS4 compatibility. TwicPit did not compile out of the box with the new SDK, and I had to fiddle quite a lot with the 3rd party frameworks to get them run on the simulator (apparently it ran out of the box on the device, but not on the simulator… usually it’s the other way round!), but I got this figured out as just in time the OAuth library I was importing got updated 2 weeks ago (“for the new toolchain” the author writes…). So I’m happy ’bout that, and now with my newly compiled app, I’m enjoying the multi-task function on my iPhone 3GS, which does speed up you usage quite significantly! I can now check my tweets faster with TwicPit than with Twitter for iPhone (which is not yet compiled for iOS4). You will love multi-task, I’m telling you…

TwicPit 2 in review!

Now everybody please keep the fingers crossed, that Apple is not dismissing my hours of work that I had been putting into this release in the last months. Final tests were all successful, and although not (yet) all features were implemented in time, and some features are not (yet) the way I wanted them, I’m now quite happy with the release, and am using this app as my iPhone Twitter Client of choice personnally.

I truely believe that I have found a more usable paradigm of a Twitter Client, but until Apple has not released it for the app store, I won’t tell much more. They have become quite infamous for their rejection policy lately. So wish me luck, and stay tuned for a hopeful soon release!

Final testing phase for release of TwicPit 2

I’ve entered the final testing and bugfixing phase for TwicPit 2. This means that all major features I wanted to have (as a minimum) for the release are now implemented and working. I’m taking the rest of the week as final test and bugfix week before release to Apple, and I’m quite confident, that submission for review by Apple will happen this week.

I’m also setting up a new Internet page for TwicPit, but this will not be released before the App is released by Apple.

Release of 2.0 might slip into June

I’d been stumbling over few things that really need to be fixed for V2.0 release of the TwicPit Twitter Client App. These are mainly not bugs, but features greatly improving usability, so anybody will benefit from those.

As for details: Twitter now only allows new Twitter clients using the so called “OAuth” protocol. As this has the benefit, that I don’t have to save passwords locally, it has the downside that for picture uploads, the Oauth session cannot be resused for twicpit.com and passwords need to be re-entered.

I’m going to change this in a way that it becomes more usable, and this is currently the blocking point for a release, but the release will definetly be soon!

Talking dumb to Smart Cards – on a Mac

I’ve uploaded a little tool which was a side product of some other work – already quite a while ago. As I found it can sometimes be quite useful, to send low level commands to a Smart Card (if you’re in “the industry”…) – maybe somebody else will find it useful, too.
